Store History

The family owned business of Astoria Builders Supply Co. traces its roots back to 1942. When the store first opened, it operated under the name of Brewer Billy Lumber Co. Five years later the name was changed and that name is still in use today. Although the name was changed in 1947, it was not incorporated until 1967.

The Gearhart location was purchased in 1990 and would eventually grow. In 2001, the Astoria store was demolished in preparation for expansion. During the rebuild, the company was run out of the historic blacksmith shop. By September of 2002, the new facility opened its doors in the same location of the original store. The new store had tripled the size of available retail space that was found in the old store. The corporate offices are now located in the new establishment which is designed to fit into the town's historic style. The exterior and interior, both, are designed to reflect the look of the old waterfront buildings. The history continues in the art work that can be found in the form of murals on the walls within the main store. The pictures tell the story of Astoria's past, while incorporating some modern surprises.

After the renovation of Astoria, the Gearhart store got its update. The company purchased the neighboring property that was formerly Captain Morgan's Restaurant and began construction. The new Gearhart store opened for business in 2005 boasting ten times the amount of space in comparison to the original. The store features the same basic architecture as the Astoria building including murals that portray the vast history of the beach town known as Gearhart.

The company originated with three employees, but now employs over 70 people. The Builders Supply legacy is celebrated every September with an annual barbeque open to all of our customers.
